Omaha's Riverfront Revitalization Project Earns an Envision® Platinum Award for Sustainable Infrastructure The city of Omaha held a special event on Thursday, October 28, 2021, to celebrate earning an Envision® Platinum award for the Riverfront Revitalization Project. There's a lot to celebrate, as this is the first project in Nebraska to earn an Envision award for sustainability. Being a Platinum award (the highest honor bestowed by ISI) makes it that much sweeter. Omaha community members, representatives, and the media were on hand for the ceremony. We're proud to pass along that Kristi Wamstad, ISI's Verification director, was invited to hand deliver the award to Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert. | | | | | | | Representatives from several organizations —who are designing and building the project —attended the ceremony, including the RiverFront team, the Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority (MECA), representatives from HDR, Kiewit, and OJB Landscape Architecture. | | There are numerous firms who are involved in bringing the project to fruition. - Rehabilitates, restores, and repurposes existing community assets.
| | This project scored exceptionally well in the Envision Quality of Life credit category, earning the highest level of achievement possible for eight credits, and earning an additional eight "bonus points" for innovation— going above and beyond Envision credit requirements. The following are a few reasons why it scored so well: - Implementing a best-in-class children's environment, restoring community assets and local character.
- Incorporating a digital-media initiative at the Gene Leahy Mall that will showcase specialized lighting displays during national holidays and local events.
- And, building a recreational amenity on a capped brownfield.

From day one, details in design and process have been pillars of this endeavor, which resulted in a first of its kind recognition in Nebraska.
